This piece was painted by Alfred Parsons when the artist stayed with Hilda Britten at Dungeon Farm, Somerset for a six week period. The Britten's had only recently moved to Dungeon Farm since being married. They were dairy farmers and cheese makers, and likely hosted Alfred Parsons purely on a commercial basis to paint the surrounding landscape. Hilda is depicted in the picture, holding her young son Leslie.

The farm is situated one mile south of the village of Croscombe and three miles from the centre of Wells. In the far distance you can see Glastonbury Tor.
