In its rotund form and its golden colour, the quince is a highly characterful fruit. As a result, an image of a single example, sitting erect on a surface, can take on the quality of a portrait. Here, the curves and crevices of its solid body are revealed in strong light and set off by the deep blues of the background. The surrounding spray of leaves adds to the sense of display, as if clothes are being thrown off, or flags are being waved in the air.
