Hercules Brabazon Brabazon (1821-1906) was born 200 years ago this week.
He was a founding member (1881) and father figure of the NEAC and his fresh delightful small scale works made spontaneously en plein air continue to embody that independent spirit seeking direct impressions from nature. Admired by John Singer Sergeant and praised by Ruskin (“ if you and I were rolled into one we would astonish the world of painting” )in his day he continues to be an inspiration to professional artists and the patron saint of amateurs.
This gallery has been his main apologist in the last 40 years staging many exhibitions and publishing significant catalogues:

In June 2022 we will launch the exhibition of Brabazon’s biggest collector post War. The 70 watercolours in the John R Goodyear Collection will further enhance the reputation of this singular and enjoyable artist and will be recorded in a fully illustrated catalogue. Please contact the gallery for an invitation and further details.
