William James Forster (1840-1891)

Forster was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne on February 23 1851. In 1871 he arrived in New Zealand, where he stayed for at least 8 years. In 1880-1881 he is listed on the Wellington electoral rolls as a 'marine artist'. He moved to Sydney around 1880, still working as a marine artist and lived there until his death, from diphtheria, in May 1891.
