Harry Ross Thomson (born 1938)
Ross Thomson’s witty imagination and clever observations have made equally successful as cartoonist, animator and writer and illustrator of children’s books.
Ross Thomson was born in Hawick, Scotland in October 1938. He graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from Edinburgh College of Art in 1962, before moving to London. He worked as an art director for various advertising agencies before becoming a freelance cartoonist in 1970. Since then, his work has appeared in many publications including Punch, Reader’s Digest, Playboy and Private Eye. He has also produced work for advertising campaigns for Midland Bank, London Buses and others, as well as designing over 80 animated television commercials. He has won a large number of prizes and awards at international cartoon competitions across the world. His children’s books include the ‘Captain Bones’ series for Orchard Books. He is based in Balcombe, West Sussex.
