WILLIAM HANNA CLARKE (1882-1924)
Glasgow born William Hanna Clarke lived in Kircudbright from about 1916 and was a leading member of the Kircudbright School of Painters. His landscapes and rustic scenes reveal the influence of French nineteenth century painting, and his later work embodies the best of British Impressionism. He exhibited regularly in such Scottish venues as the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art and also in Liverpool. He died early following serious injuries sustained in an accident in a builders' yard.
