The youngest of the eighteen first class counties Durham eventually made their headquarters at The Riverside on the outskirts of Chester-le-Street with the famous haunted Lumley Castle in the background. With all the ghosts about it was always a good tactic to put the visiting team in the castle to guarantee the occasional interrupted night’s sleep!
