Commissioned by Sir Valentine Crittall, of the Crittall Manufacturing Company Ltd, Christmas 1938.

'Commissioned by Sir Valentine Crittall for Christmas 1938. Selected perhaps because the previous year the George V block, designed by Lodge (and with Ctrittall windows?) replaced the south block of Gibb’s 18th century building erected when William Hogarth was a governor.

The oldest hospital in London, St Bartholomew’s was founded on its present site in West Smithfield in 1123. An important teaching hospital, medical students were first recorded there in 1662, though probably go back further. In 1900 the medical school became part of London University.'
