The brightly lit shop in the centre of the painting is "Beaman's "- a sweet shop. The present owner of the shop George Beaman only died recently in 2026 at 99 years old (born 1926) !

It was his parents' shop before that - so they would very likely have been at the counter at the time of JHH's painting that scene !
James Hamilton Hay lived in Audlem for a short time around 1909 at a place called Taintree House.
