This powerful narrative illustration is close in style to the work of John Minton, and was surely produced by an artist within his circle, and possibly by one of the students that he taught at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, the Central School of Arts and Crafts or the Royal College of Art. This exhibits the raw vitality of Minton's working drawings, and may have resulted from a classroom project. Though the text that this illustrates has yet to be identified, it suggests a dark fantasy in which contemporary teenagers have been transported back to a primitive forest inhabited by semi-naked, fuzzy-headed men armed with spears. A single teenager features in the foreground, as if he or she is remembering or dreaming the depicted event, and this gives to them an almost psychological depth.
