'In the first couple of years of the 1980’s Peter Thorneycroft found himself in disagreement with Margaret Thatcher’s monetary policy. He and Francis Pym are believed to have plotted Margaret Thatcher’s downfall and Pym’s succession as Prime Minister. This cartoon shows Francis Pym and Thorneycroft cutting Geoffrey Howe and Margaret Thatcher adrift on an iceberg. The cartoon was given to me by Ian Aitken then political editor of the Guardian.'
