From the translation of the title, it is believed that the painting by Walter Tyndale is depicting Burg Square with a section of the Basilica of the Holly Blood, in Bruge. The gothic arches of the doorway added to the building in the 15th century during a renovation and then again in 1823 are a part of a chapel which was promoted to a minor basilica in 1923. The basilica acquired its current facade around 1900, at the same time as the two wooden statues representing Jesus on the Cold Stone and the Pieta were first displayed.
