Walter Tyndale lived in Haselmere from the end of the 1880s, soon after his marriage to Evelyn Barnard. In 1900 he commissioned the Arts and Crafts architect, William Frederick Unsworth, to design his family home Broad Dene, in Hill Road. Tyndale also painted another of Unsworth’s houses, ‘Saracen’s Lair’ near Woking at the same time.
