‘Suddenly everything was bursting out in wonderful fresh greens and yellows and lots of purple blooms. In this painting, I have put my neighbour cutting down the ivy that has got a bit too overgrown. My neighbours are incredible gardeners, I’m very grateful for the lovely view they provide.’

Beetles Choice - 10 June 2024

Today is Varnishing Day at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Melissa Scott-Miller will be there rubbing shoulders with all the chosen artists anxious to see how well their pictures have been hung. Melissa's two submissions have both been selected and hung: Self-Portrait Drawing Space in an Islington Back Garden and King's Cross with Canal Boats and Google Landscraper.

Melissa's
Islington back garden is a favourite subject and Melissa returns regularly to this beloved scene recording the delights of the seasons. In our own Summer Show, we recall the Spring like effulgence of The April Gardener, at a fine 39 x 31 inches it feels like a resonant celebration with the exhibition up the road.

This
week, her New English Art Club works will be on display at the Mall Galleries, including Avery's Springtime Nap. I think it's time to plan a Melissa tour this week and next over the three exhibiting sites. We look forward to seeing you.
