Twin-peaked Ben Venue, in Stirlingshire, lies between Loch Katrine and Loch Vennachar, close to the Trossachs. On its north eastern slopes are Corrie na Urisgean, the traditional meeting place of Scotland’s goblins, and Bealach nam Bo, a pass much favoured by Rob Roy when returning home with cattle. Loch Katrine has long been associated with Sir Walter Scott’s Romantic poem The Lady of the Lake (1810), while since 1859 it has supplied fresh water to the city of Glasgow.
