Ronald Searle was taken prisoner in 1942 when Singapore fell to the Japanese during the Second World War. He was held at Changi Gaol, as well as being sent to work on the Siam-Burma Death Railway. Whilst at Changi, he produced drawings of his experiences of camp life, as well as contributing to camp newspapers, revues and christmas cards produced by the prisoners.
