'Hennell's friend (and later art executor) E. Owen Jennings ... said that while Hennell's work gives "an appearance of swiftness in execution, almost as though completed with one sweep of the brush across the paper", this "speed of handling" was only achieved because of "a lifelong love and study of nature" which the rural surroundings of Ridley engendered.'
