From September 1944, ‘Hennell was now attached to the First Canadian Army, which was tasked with clearing the German-occupied Channel coast following the Allied victory in Normandy. Hennell accompanied the Canadians on their north-easterly advance from Falaise, as they captured the ports of Dieppe, Le Havre, Boulogne and Calais throughout September 1944.’
