Frank Sherrell, a budding artist, is planning to learn the professional secrets of one of England's greatest painters - J M W Turner - as his studio assistant. But the man himself is intimidating, his house strange and only occasionally inhabited by the great man. Frank finds himself at the centre of a mystery that involves Turner's professional and private lives in increasingly dramatic twists of plot.
This is a gripping and often comic adventure story that spreads across Victorian London, and brings some of his famous contemporaries into fascinating focus.
