George Cruikshank Jnr (1842-1909)
George Cruikshank junior was born on 13 December 1842, the son of cartoonist and illustrator, Percy Cruikshank. He caused arguments within his family through his occasional imitations of the style of his great uncle George Cruikshank. Though he was made bankrupt in the eighteen-sixties, he continued to produce cartoons and illustrations until his death.
He contributed to Aunt Judy’s Magazine (1866-71), Beeton’s Annual (1866), the Father Christmas Annual, Fun, Hornet, the Illustrated London News (1882), London Society (1866, 1874), the Sphere (1894) and the Torch. In 1875, he illustrated Novello’s The History of Bluebeard’s Wives.
