Eric Thompson was born in 1910. He joined the Daily Mail as a 21 year old in 1931 as a writer, largely covering football and cricket. Over his time at the Daily Mail, he began to draw cartoons to accompany his articles.
On 6 February 1958, Eric Thompson was killed along with 22 other journalists and players and staff of Manchester United Football Club in the Munich Air Disaster. He was 48 years old.
