Jonathan Wateridge (born 1972)

Jonathan Wateridge was born in Zambia in 1972. Aged 18, he left for England, where he studied at Glasgow School of Art. However, he became disillusioned with painting and turned to caricature and illustration. He began with small weekly cartoons for the Times Literary Supplement and published work in The Sunday Times Magazine and the Economist. For almost a decade he drew covers for The Spectator.
After returning to painting and finishing his degree, he has become better known for his figurative, atmospheric oil paintings. He has exhibited widely, most recently in February at GRIMM Gallery, Amsterdam. Today, he lives in Norfolk.
