Rupert Besley

Since 1980, Rupert Besley has worked full-time as an illustrator and gag cartoonist. In the latter capacity, he has often focussed on holidays in Britain, publishing a number of books on the subject.

Most of Rupert Besley’s work has comprised detailed watercolour illustrations for educational books, including those by Longman and Macmillan, in need of charm and direct communication. However, he has also supplied gag cartoons to such publications as
Country Life, The Oldie, the Isle of Wight Weekly Post and Isle of Wight County Press, and postcard designs to Dixon’s, John Hinde and Salmon, among other companies. His own books include Scotland for Beginners (1998), The Cannae Sutra (2008) and Terribly English (2012). He lives on the Isle of Wight.
