Inveraray is on the north shore of Loch Fyne, Argyll. It was the birthplace of Eliza Maria Campbell, the mother of Constance Frederica Gordon-Cumming and granddaughter of the 5th Duke of Argyll, whose seat was Inveraray Castle. The present watercolour shows the view from the castle’s grounds looking north east towards Ben Vorlich, a Munro which towers over the west side of the head of Loch Lomond.
