According to the inscription, the present illustration appears to have been a gift from Edmund Dulac to Ernest E Moore (1865-1940) in December 1905, a few months after Dulac had settled in London.
Ernest E Moore was himself an artist who would become an accomplished portrait painter. After studying at Barnsley School of Art, Moore travelled to further his studies in Paris, where he may have first met Edmund Dulac. In 1932, Ernest E Moore competed in painting at the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
