To My Young Friends At Woodridings School
Once More the Merrie Month of May Emboldens Me to Challenge You to a Game of Cricket with Some of the Pinner Parents. I Asked My, & Your, Friend Mr W Heath Robinson to Pictorially Represent the Daring Spirit In Which this Challenge Was Conceived Hoping That He Would Produce Something Which Would Strike Terror In Your Hearts, but Oh How My Friend Has Betrayed Me! With, I Fear, Prophetic Instinct He Heads My Challenge with a Picture of Our Principal Player Spooning a Ball & One of Our Youthful Opponents Watching the Catch of the Season. However Nothing Daunted We Come, if Not to Win, At Least For a Few Hours to Pursue Our Youth & Let Time 'Run Back and Fetch the Age of Gold' Respice - Prospice. Looking Back, We Parents Remember the Wonderful Cricket We Played & 'What We Were Like In Our Work & Our Play' Looking Forward, You Youngsters Can Conjure Up Visions of Wonderful Cricket yet to Be Played, Remembering That so Long as You Retain the Keen Eye, the Strong Arm & the Lithe Limb of the Cricketer, You Will Run After and Not Before Your Innings
William Heath Robinson (1872-1944)
