This is the embankment at Chelsea, with the tower of Chelsea Old Church visible behind the trees to the right. The bridge in the distance is the old wooden Battersea Bridge in the process of being replaced by Joseph Bazalgette's five span iron bridge, which was officially opened by Lord Rosebery in July 1890 and still stands today.

Herbert Menzies Marshall painted in this view in 1895 from the south side of the Thames looking back towards Chelsea Old Church at dusk. [exhibited in the Chris Beetles Summer Show 2018]
