'Robin, knowing nothing of boats, stood up to move to the seat in front of Alex. Changing places in a boat is always a manœuvre that needs caution but particularly so when the one who rows is liable to catch a crab. This Alex, watching Robin, promptly did and so tipped Robin into the sea.
"'With a ring on the end of his nose, His nose,'" sang Aunt Dymphna. "Push out an oar, Alex, and haul him in." Getting someone on board a small boat at sea is very difficult. Robin was quite safe for he could swim and anyway had hold of an oar, but though Alex pulled him alongside and held his arms he could not get him into the boat and it tipped to a dangerous angle.'
