The Tokaido refers to a historic road in Japan. Approximately 320 miles long, it linked Osaka and Kyoto to modern day Tokyo. Alfred Parsons reached Hamamastu on the 16th September 1895, and described it as 'a pleasant town' with 'brilliant' fields full of colour.
