'In 1947, Paul Hogarth organised a party of four artists, including Ronald Searle, Laurence Scarfe and Percy Horton, and went with them to Yugoslavia. There they recorded the construction of a 'youth railway' being built in East Bosnia by international student volunteers including the future historians, Edward Palmer Thompson and his wife Dorothy.'
