Hilaire Belloc and Philip Geudalla
Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953), a Catholic writer and friend of G K Chesterton, is now best remembered for his book, The Path to Rome (1902). He also wrote a number of historical studies, including a large scale History of England (1925-31), which ended in the year 1612. The dedicatee of Dyson's cartoon of Belloc, Philip Guedalla (1889-1944) was also an historian and essayist and, like Belloc, he had studied at Balliol College, Oxford. In addition, he took a great interest in the art of the caricature, and was a collector of Max Beerbohm.
