The industrial environment juxtaposed with the echoing undulations of the surrounding natural landscape was a relationship that appealed to Cecil Arthur Hunt. The drama, billowing smoke and the rigid additions of fence posts or industrial buildings enabled Hunt to fully utilise his renowned technique. Where, he scraped through an overlay of viscous gouache, often with the end of a paintbrush, to reveal the layers of watercolour beneath. Therefore, giving depth and defining the highlights and details.
