Schwabe was in Charing, Kent, between 21 August and 12 September 1931. However, two days after his arrival, he broke his left arm 'falling off the back of Hugh's [Jones] motorcycle coming back from Ashford just near the house' (Diary), and had to spend a night in Ashford Hospital. The present work testifies that, with his right arm intact, he was still able to draw.
