Sir Charles John Darling (1849-1936)
Darling was called to the bar in 1874 and joined the Oxford circuit. He spent time as a Conservative politician and wrote for the Pall Mall Gazette and Saturday Review. He was appointed a judge in the High Court in 1897 and received a knighthood. He was known for his impeccable dressing, his erudition and wit. He retired in 1927 and was made Baron Darling of Langham, Essex.
