Peter Coker returned to the tranquil, but ever-changing theme, of garden ponds both in France and also the familiar one in his own garden in Mistley, Essex. He made many studies of the pond both on loose sheets of paper and in a wide variety of media. This large oil of spontaneous organic shapes and patterns demonstrates the relationship between the myriad of transient watery reflections contrasting with the shadowy solidity of its surroundings.
