'Finished my painting of Lonsdale Square on sunny late afternoons. I lived there for twenty years and brought up my children in an attic council flat in the corner.
Years before I lived there, Lucian Freud used to visit his four children from Suzy Boyt who lived there. When I saw him at a party given by Rose Boyt about fifteen years ago, he asked me where I live now and when I said Lonsdale Square he said ‘it’s very you!’ - not sure what he meant, but I took it as a compliment!
It is an interesting square although quite different now I expect...'
