'Finished this painting of the lovely trees outside the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair. It is a lovely corner, you can see the entrance to Mount Street gardens and Farm Street Church beyond. I love the buildings around there and the grand entrance of the hotel. Lately I have been noticing that many of the wrought iron gates and railings have twirly patterns, maybe based on the tendrils of plants and flowers. The stone and brick colours remind me of quarries and rocks, nature influences everything we make. It’s also been lovely to stand in a shaded spot and try to paint the sunshine’s effect on buildings and trees...'
