This colourful and picturesque exhibition spans 250 years. From the age of the Grand Tourist to the modern package holiday invasion, it celebrates the enduring English love of Italy. It is in itself a Grand Tour of vicarious joy travelling from the Republican ruins of Rome to the canals of Venice.
In the 200 artworks on show we present a comprehensive display. First, taking the early 19th Century topographers and two centuries of sunlit artistic recording, through to the spontaneous immersion of contemporary art.
